For years a shocking number of animal cruelty cases have been reported every day. Cases of animal cruelty are not treated the way they need to. Animals that are mostly to be reported of abuse are cats, dogs, horses, and livestock. Unfortunately there are over 10 million cases in the U.S a year most of the time the animals are being abused to death.

What is animal cruelty?

Animal cruelty is a ongoing behavior to inflict harm on a animal by injuring or killing. This is a concern for the reason these people are inflicting harm on a living creature. Neglect is takes a huge act in animal cruelty. Some examples are lack of food and water. This is a very serious problem for the reason that this can affect the way the animal could act, making them aggressive and for the obvious reasons they are dying from hunger and thirst. Another example is lack of shelter. This is another serious issue for the reason the animal is in a lot of exposed areas and the animal can also be exposed to the inclement weather or sun. There are so many more examples such as animals tied to a chain and having little to no room to move, neglect is one of the main causes of animal abuse and can be the biggest cause of an animal’s death and the list goes on.

How can you help?

At Potosi High School, students should all be aware of what is going on around us. If you come across anything that is resulting in animal cruelty you should report it as well as any other type of abuse. Another way to help is to volunteer at your local animal shelter because it is always a good way to keep the workers from getting stressed out and having their hands tied. The best way to make a change is to educate the students around you about the ongoing animal issues.
