The Tennis Season That Took Potosi To State

On Saturday, October 16, senior Michelle Whitaker represented Potosi High School at the Class 1 MO State Tennis Tournament in Springfield, MO. Whitacker won her first set 6-4, but lost her 2nd set. She battled in the third set, forcing a super tie breaker but ended up losing the third set 13-11. 

 

Coach Mueller said,   “Our season was a success. Every year we want to play for a district title. Our growth has me excited for the future. Also the senior season that Michelle has had is a great example of work paying off with results.”

 

Whitaker has had a dream season, not only representing PHS at the State tournament, but exceeding 100 career wins and being named an Parkland/Daily Journal/J98 Athlete of the Week honor. She won her sectional matches 6-0 and 6-1. 

 

Individual Districts: Michelle Whitacker takes first in singles, and sophomore Tori Krebs and freshman Lani Elder took 4th in doubles.

 

Team Districts: Potosi took second losing to North County in the finals. 

Conference: Potosi’s Tennis girls took third behind Farmington and North County at the MAAA Conference tournament. Whitacker took 1st in singles, Krebs took 3rd, Kya Gibson took 5th, and Elder took 6th. 3rd in Doubles #1 Bracket Michelle Whitaker and Kya Gibson # 3 Bracket Tori Kerbs and Lani Elder.
