The Potosi Speech and Debate team took the podium at Festus High School on January 11, 2022. This year was a great underdog story because last year the school couldn’t get a team together; Covid took a huge gash into the fine arts. Yet the team this year defied the odds by having a fierce squad with all new members. Not only this, but the team was formed under brand new administration Mrs. Katelyn Papin who has helped this group achieve so much in so little time.

After battling through several rounds of the conference wide competition, Matti Cook, Noelle Porter, Abigail Wilkins, Emma Simmons and Isabella DiFiori advanced to the final round of Speech and Debate. Even while being new to this whole experience, these women excelled in every category. They received the following awards:

Matti Cook- 4th place– Dramatic Interpretation

Noelle Porter- 4th place– Humorous Interpretation

Abigail Wilkins- 1st place– Original Oratory

Isabella DiFiori- 1st place– Radio Speaking

Abigail Wilkins- 6th place– Radio Speaking

Emma Simmons- 3rd place– Poetry

5th place team overall
