Potosi has had an impact on the state of Missouri in a number of ways. Everything from a Cross Country Team inducted into the Hall of Fame, All-State softball teams, tennis players, baseball teams, wrestlers and many more. The average person understands how difficult it is to place in the top of the state when it comes to sports. However, when it comes to the fine arts, it is a totally different “ballgame.” In the arts, there is no objective “basket” that is worth two points, and no specific point system that guarantees a win. That’s what makes the arts so incredibly demanding. The Potosi fine arts program has been excelling for so long that many forgot just how much they are accomplishing. 

This year, the Potosi Fine Arts Program was announced the “Fine Arts Program of the Year.” Dr. Fisher, former PHS graduate and Art Education professor at UMSL University nominated the Potosi Fine Art program for the prestigious award. The Missouri Alliance of Arts Education presented this award to our fine arts faculty on March 23 at the capitol building in Jefferson City. This is a statewide award, meaning that Potosi received this award over thousands of other possible schools throughout Missouri. 

Such a high honor is incredible, especially with how much Potosi does with so little. Potosi High School is among one of the smallest school population sizes in its fine arts class but still competes at the highest level. To put this in perspective, the choir is a top competitor even despite not having a choir room with acoustics, the theater department puts on full broadway musicals without an auditorium and the band always has a big turn out and competes well wherever they go.

Marching Band

• 11 Outstanding caption awards through the season
• Grand Champions in Tampa’s BrightSpark competition
• Performed at pregame and halftime for the Outback Bowl

Choir

• Broke 3 school records this year
• Had 11 All-District choir members, 
• Had 4 All-State choir members 
• First singer ever chosen for the State Sight Singing Competition
• First perfect choral record in Potosi history. 

Art

• 1st place sculpture at the SEMO High School Art Exhibition

Drama 

• A Musical with the original Broadway music
• A well known play that was put on in 2 weeks
• Radio Speaking District Champion
• 2nd place in Poetry
• 2 All State qualifying speech and debate members
