On Tuesday, October 24, PHS Speech Team started off their season at Ste. Genevieve. The team has grown the past two years, as more students are interested.
Speech team member and current Junior Caleb Carter said, “These meets are always fun, it’s so cool to meet and see so many other people and pieces.”
Competitive speech offers several event types. These events include poetry, prose, debate, informative speeches, radio speaking, and many more. At the beginning of the school year, students choose a piece and event they want to perform for the season, and they practice in class or before/after school until their first meet. After each meet, students receive ballots back from judges reviewing their pieces and giving feedback. Students who competed at this meet are listed below.

They will continue to compete and will have several tournaments and activities along the way such as Finals in December in Festus, Missouri, Districts in March and State in April in Springfield, Missouri. The team hopes to strive and succeed in their next competitions, and have fun along the way.
