PHS Girls wrestling team takes home first at Conference

On Saturday, January, 20 the PHS girls and boys wrestling teams headed down to SEMO in Sikeston, Missouri for their conference championship.

Potosi wrestling team has taken in fifteen medals from this conference with three girls taking first place in their weight class. The wrestling team has worked so hard for this

There has been a surplus of interest in wrestling this year with the numbers of the team almost tripling in size. Coach Huddleston said that for the team to do so well, “The numbers almost tripled, and going one-on-one with other teammates made us a lot better.”

This year has really surprised the student body of Potosi High School because our wrestling team is a sport that doesn’t get a lot of coverage. Gracie Boyster the avid supporter and manager for the Trojans wrestling team said, “I spread support and share it by taking pictures and posting on social media making sure that the team is getting all the support they can get.”

With how this year is going our wrestling team is getting better more known, and exceeding the expectations of coach Huddleston who feels that their hard work is paying off this season.

Allison Missey is one of our three Lady Trojans who was a conference champion placing first in her weight class. Missey and her whole team have worked so hard this year with each day being harder than the next but it paid off at conference. Missey said, “To get this far and do so well was surreal but it took a lot of hard work and one one-on-one wrestling with other teammates but it was so worth it.”

The wrestling team still has so much left to do with districts and states coming up in their season and 5 meets left. The wrestling team has put so much hard work and dedication into this season and it shows! Our wrestling team has a meet on February 3 at Central High School.
