On Saturday, February 11, the Potosi Trojans girls’ basketball team traveled to Valley to play against the West County Bulldogs in the MAAA consolation championship game. They defeated the Bulldogs with a final score of 42-33.
The girls were ready for the upcoming game after already beating the Bulldogs earlier in the season. They played hard and came out ahead in the first quarter with a score of 22-16. The Trojans kept up the energy from the first quarter and stayed ahead the rest of the game. Junior Aubree Wilson led the team with 16 points.
Wilson said, “Achieving consecutive victories in the conference tournament was a rewarding feeling. We spent many hours preparing and working hard to achieve our goals for the tournament which ended up paying off for us.”
The Lady Trojans worked hard to get to this game by defeating the Kingston Cougars in the conference round beforehand. They beat the Cougars with a score of 62-28. With a score of 42-16 after halftime, the refs called for a running clock for the 3rd and 4th quarters to lead the Trojans to victory. The Trojans took a loss to the Bismarck Indians with a score of 60-50 to come in 9th place in the tournament.
The Lady Trojans will play the Union Wildcats on Wednesday, February 21.
