Accuplacer testing for dual credit and dual enrollment classes is taking place in the counseling office now through the end of the school year. Mrs. Merseal, PHS’s Accuplacer coordinator, would like for students to have this done before the end of the year instead of waiting until next year.
If you plan on taking a math test you can schedule a time to do that with Mrs. Major sometime this month. If you need to take a reading or writing test, please schedule it with the counselors as fast as possible as spots are filling up quickly.
Each Accuplacer test costs $10, and students must have the money with them when they show up to take the test.
Students who have scheduled a time to take a test must make sure to show up on time, so they are not taking up another spot for someone else who would like to take one.
Mrs. Merseal said that any student who is planning to take dual credit or dual enrollment classes next year, needs to make they have met the prerequisites for those classes. If students are not sure, they should see their counselor.”
The Accuplacer test is a set standardized tests that measures students’ skills in reading, writing, and math to help colleges put the students in courses that match their skills. Any freshman or sophomore who has not taken the ACT, or any student who has taken the ACT, but did not meet the prerequisite score needed for the class they want to take, should consider taking the Accuplacer. Many students view the Accuplacer as a quality alternative to the ACT because it costs less, takes less time, can be taken on a school day (instead of a Saturday), is offered in single subject areas, and is not timed.
If students would like to practice an Accuplacer test they can go online to https://accuplacer.collegeboard.org/students/prepare-for-accuplacer/practice and take the practice tests there.
