On Tuesday, April 23, the Potosi Lady Trojans softball team played the Steelville Lady Cardinals. The Trojans defeated the Cardinals at home with a score of 10-2.
Although the Trojans lost to the Cardinals in the tournament the weekend prior, they were able to conquer the Cardinals despite the rainy conditions. In the bottom of the second inning, the umpires stopped the game due to the weather. After a short pause, the Trojans continued to play in the rain. The Cardinals tailed the Trojans the whole game, and after the second inning, the score was 4-1.
Junior Lily Bryan said that it felt good to be ahead so early in the game, and the team played well both offensively and defensively.
Junior Lani Elder hit a home run in the third inning scoring 3 runs, this made the score 7-2. The Trojans kept the momentum going and scored 3 more runs throughout the game, while not allowing the Cardinals any more runs.
Elder said, “ Coming out and beating a team that we had previously lost to was really big for the team, and I was very glad to contribute at the plate.”
The Trojans’ next game is at home on Friday, April 26, against the Arcadia Valley Tigers.
