The Washington County Teen Outreach Program’s first meeting was held Monday, August 26 in Mr. McRaven’s classroom.
Represented by Tiffany Hawkins, the Teen Outreach Program, often shortened to TOP, is a program that helps build relationships between students and the community. The group commonly does community service projects like cleaning up around the school or parks, donating, and volunteering.
Hawkins said, “TOP is more than a club; it is a place for students to be who they are and be accepted.” Anybody is welcome to join TOP until Sep. 16, 2024. Meetings will be held weekly in Mr. McRaven’s room every Monday from 3 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Plans for later on in the year include a canned food drive, setting up miniature flags for veterans at a local cemetery, donating blankets for a local nursing home again, and plenty of other activities to help the community.
“My favorite part of TOP last year was making blankets for the nursing home. It was sweet, and it made it feel really special to give something hand-made to those in need,” Senior Lilyan Bryan said. While it may seem like a lot of work to some, others have a lot of fun helping the community while also building connections with their peers.
