On Monday, October 14, the 86th Moses Austin Chapter National Honor Society Initiation Ceremony was held. To earn this recognition students must, obtain a cumulative 3.5 GPA or higher, earn 15 hours of community service, be involved in at least 3 school activities, have a minimum of 93% attendance, and be a member of the sophomore, junior, or senior class. This year there were 137 members. 69 new inductees and 68 old. The gym was full of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and more.
Missouri’s 2024 teacher of the year and our very own here at PHS Greg Kester was asked to speak at the event. His speech was heartwarming and valuable. He made Potosi feel like we are a home with a big family and that we should cherish it because most people he has talked to nationwide love that we’re like that and wish they were like it. He even left some of the audience with tears in their eyes or maybe that was just allergies.
Newly inducted Sophomore Jaxon Buckley also stated, “Being inducted into the National Honor Society made me feel honored to take part in a ceremony with the alumni before me and made me have a sense of gratitude for all the academically hard work that has happened.” These students have put in so much work and time before, during, and after school to accomplish this achievement.
