Athletic Director and Coach Josh Mapes was named the head coach of the Potosi High School Girls Basketball Team for the 2024-25 season. Mapes has made a huge impact on the game of basketball which has helped him accomplish one state championship, third place finish in state, nine district titles, seven-time Christmas Tournament champion, six-time conference tournament champion, five-time conference champion, eight-time Fredericktown Tournament champion, and over 250 career wins.
“He always makes me the best version of myself and pushes me to never be anything less than what I am worth. I know me and my dad will always have something in common. That being our love for the game of basketball. It makes me and my dad’s relationship outside of basketball unbreakable” said senior basketball player Annie Mapes.
Mapes said, “There is no substitute for hard work. My goal is for each player to learn core values: being a good person, dedication, and to learn what it means to work hard and be great teammates. I would like them to know that they are playing for our school, community, and each other.”
Senior basketball player Aubree Wilson said, “Coach Mapes has impacted me in many ways. He has impacted me on the court by giving me a new set of confidence as a player and he has molded me into a better leader on the court. He has also impacted me to be a better person off the court by talking and communicating with my teammates more.”
With Mapes leadership and determination, the Potosi High School Girls Basketball Team has a bright and successful future ahead of them. Mapes has already impacted not only athletes, but students as well. He is prepared for the upcoming season and will keep impacting the game itself.
The first day of basketball tryouts are November 4, 2024 after school in the gym.
