Macyn McCarthy, a 15-year-old Sophomore at Potosi High School, is ranked first in volleyball for class three for digs. McCarthy is the starting libero for the 2024 season and a Sophomore on Varsity.
McCarthy said, “My parents impacted me the most, not only as a player but as a person in general. They have always believed in me and pushed me even in rough times when I did not believe in myself. I love this sport because of the environment and how competitive it is. To only be a Sophomore on varsity is an amazing feeling, I am blessed to be on such an unstoppable team.”
McCarthy is leading Potosi in digs this season. With just 90 sets, she has 351 digs. McCarthy has 585 digs in total. As of right now, she is first in the district for digs. Her season high is 29 against Central Park Hills in five sets.
Eden Robart, her teammate said, “Macyn impacts our team positively. Macyn never fails to cover me and our teammates. Macyn and I have been playing together for five years, and watching her grow into the player she is today is so special to me.”
Outside of school volleyball, McCarthy is involved in Mineral Area Club Volleyball. She is a Student Ambassador for the 24-25 school year, a member of the National Honor Society, and a member of First Baptist Church. She also spends time with her family and friends.
McCarthy is only as far from accomplishing every goal she has. She has big dreams of playing Division One volleyball in college.
