Ava Govro is a sophomore cross country and track athlete at Potosi High School. She spends her time conditioning for her sports, in season and off season. In the fall she can be found off campus running lengthy routes to prepare for the cross country season. In the spring she can be found on the track doing speed workouts to gear up for the track season.
Sophomore Ava Govro said, “I think running is challenging but rewarding at the same time. My favorite memory is going to the overnight trips to Joplin and to Jefferson City for state last year.”
Ava goes to practice immediately after school. At practice her conditioning can vary between a long run, a workout, speed intervals, hills, time trials, or a recovery run.
Junior Carley Coleman said,“ She was very welcoming to me when I joined the team. She is always uplifting and encouraging her teammates and pushes them to be the best that they can be.”
Before a race and practice, Ava prepares herself by stretching, warming up, doing dynamic drills, and visualizing how she wants her run to go. The girls’ team including Ava also pray before the race starts for safety of all runners and a positive outcome.
