Eve Litton is a freshman at Potosi High School that is participating in her first year of varsity volleyball. Eve has been in the volleyball program for several years, she has been playing volleyball since she was six which would make this her eighth year playing. She started playing for the little league volleyball team that the Trojan Volleyball Boasters hold, to now playing on the high school varsity volleyball team.
Coach Ashley Matthews and Blair Franklin said, “Eve has stepped up as a middle this season, without ever playing middle before. She is energetic, eager to learn, and get better each day. “
On the varsity volleyball team Eve plays in the front row as a middle. Eve averages two to three kills and one to two blocks during each game, her stats continue to grow with each kill. She works hard in the front row during practice and games getting these blocks, hits, and kills.
Freshman Eve Litton said, “Playing varsity is very pressuring and a lot of fun. You gain so much more experience with older girls and get to learn more about the sport you love at a higher and faster, intense level. Being a middle is new to me, it definitely teaches you new skills you have to pick up on, like constantly moving your feet, trying to get any types of touches on a ball, and learning your role for the team. I feel like this is a huge accomplishment for me and I’m very proud of myself, I never thought I would get playing time as a freshman on varsity. It changes your confidence levels, makes you see that other people trust and believe in me. I always push myself to work harder and constantly give it my all. I want to be better for the seniors on the team that I’m playing with, I have the best teammates for varsity. It’s one of the best experiences I could have going into school volleyball as a freshman.”
Eve is not only a middle on the volleyball team but a great friend and teammate. She makes sure to not only push herself but her teammates as well because she knows their full potential. Pushing them to be the best they can and continuously cheering them on, on and off the court.
Senior Cloey Wigger said, “Eve always has a positive attitude on and off the court. I am also beyond proud of her stepping up and playing with us this year on varsity.“
Sophomore Macyn McCarthy said, “Eve is a great teammate to have, I am super proud of her for taking a big role on the team. I can’t wait for the following years I have with her.“
Here at Potosi High School, we have students from the Potosi middle school and high school that come and watch these games and sit in the student section. This group is called our pep squad. They watch and cheer for the volleyball teams playing at home and at different schools.
Sophomore Zane Richards said, “I think that Eve is a great volleyball player especially for a freshman, when she gets a point the pep squad likes to chant “That’s our freshman!”, and she handles pressure very well, especially against very good teams.“
Sophomore Sabra Brown said, “While I am watching her I see that she is very determined and hard working while playing varsity volleyball.”
Eve has accomplished many things during the years of her playing volleyball; however, playing on the high school varsity team as a freshman is one of her biggest accomplishments.
