The PHS football cheer team has been working hard, going to away and home games and having practice every week day.
The team is currently working towards the long-awaited homecoming. They have a dance to perform at the assembly and have been making and getting gifts for the boys on the PHS football team to keep them motivated and show gratitude.
Senior Mya Blair has been working hard trying to clean and perfect everything for the rest of the occurring season. Blair said, “For homecoming the past 2 weeks, we have been working on coming up with a dance and throwing builds, it’s really hard sometimes because we get hurt but with homecoming coming up so soon we hit everything perfectly and get back up again. And with practicing for homecoming, we’ve had to practice for the game day also and go through the list of 180 cheers making sure all the girls know them, we also have around 6 or 7 band dances that we have to nail for home games. Most of our pregame practice goes towards cheers and then the rest of it goes towards stunting because we have 3 groups so we are always trying new stunts.”
They have been putting in a lot of hard and extensive work to protect this season. During the game, they also connect with the pep-squad/the crowd.
Senior Stella Bourdon who is in the pep-squad said, “Being in the pep squad is one of the best parts of being in the crowd at the football game. It gets everyone pumped up whether we’re winning or losing. The chants always get your blood flowing and adrenaline high and then when the cheerleaders join it’s even crazier and more hyped up. My all-time favorite will always be the party chant where the cheerleader starts it and then we repeat after them yelling it.”
Homecoming was a tough loss but the cheerleader kept it up. It was difficult to keep high spirits with the rain, but they powered through. The crowd still showed up and was there to support.
The cheerleaders have put in a lot of work this season and will continue to do their best.
