As featured in episode 14 of season two of PTTV, scholarships are a great way to help any junior or senior pay for college or tech school and can be applied for online during the school year.
Scholarships are important because they don’t just help pay for college or technical/vocational school, they help with a couple of things. They will help build your resume for future jobs and show how determined someone can be.
“Applying for scholarships is pretty easy. All you’re filling out is your basic information and letting them know about yourself and why you think you’re a great candidate for their scholarship. Applying for scholarships is also important because they can prevent you from having thousands of dollars in student loan debt and can benefit someone who can’t afford college,” said Senior Amanda Fierce.
Local scholarships won’t open until Feb. 1 of next semester. When they’re released there will be various announcements over the intercom or on Google Classroom. If you go into your Google “Class of” page, you will see a Google document posted for non-local scholarships.
“The writing process for some of the scholarships was hard but most scholarships went to the kids with better grades, not that I didn’t have good grades. They helped with the cost of books, and any other supplies I needed. My college advisor had all the resources provided to us to help find all the scholarships and I advise any college-bound students to check in with their college advisors for help,” said Mrs. Mercer.
Applying for Scholarships may be difficult, but they will prevent you from being overwhelmed with student loan debt. Apply for as many scholarships as you can. If you have any questions about applying for scholarships, go ask your counselor.
Students will be able to access these scholarships by going to the PHS page at https://PotosiR3.org and selecting the counselor’s office button and scholarships to be redirected to https://potosistudents.com/index.php/departments/guidance/scholarships/ to apply when available.
