Aniston Mapes is an 18-year-old senior here at Potosi High School. This is her first year here at Potosi. She has quickly made her big role in the Potosi High School girl’s basketball team. She has been named a captain of this year’s girl’s basketball team along with Senior Aubree Wilson.
Mapes has played basketball for 13 years, and it has had a huge impact on her life. For the first four years of her basketball career, she played AAU, and then for the next eight years, she played for the Central Rebels. She then transferred for one year to the Farmington Knights. After her year there, she found a home here at the Potosi Trojans.
Mapes said, “My pre-season for basketball consists of a lot of time in the basketball gym. I put a lot of commitment into the sport and knowing my role on and off the court. Another big part of my pre-season involved being there for my teammates to turn to if they had any questions or need someone to look up basketball-related or not.”
Mapes’s tough pre-season showed on her opening day game against the Jefferson Blue Jays on Nov. 25, 2024. She scored an impressive 24 points, which led the PHS girl’s basketball in points. She not only led the team by example but also had 14 assists to her teammates and six rebounds.
Head varsity basketball coach Josh Mapes said, “Annie did a good job of running our offense and handling the ball. She passed the ball really well and her teammates did a good job of finishing. She makes players around her better, she has bought into the team concept, TEAM first always.”
Potosi High is super excited to see how the girl’s basketball team takes their season on and how well the newest member of the Lady Trojans basketball team continues to lead by example.
