Friday, December 16, the town of Potosi is holding an event called A Small Town Christmas. This is taking place in Potosi Town Square starting at 5:30 p.m. The activities of this event are hanging ornaments, carloing, praying, and tree lighting.
Mrs Greenlee said, “This will be our 9th year hosting Hang a Prayer, Light up the Square. It is a time of unity, love and a celebration of a great year and the year to come. This event impacts the community because it brings us together. People add prayers to the Christmas tree. They are prayed over and it gives hope to families that they are not alone. A Small Town Christmas is an event that creates the feel of our very own Hallmark Movie in real life. I think people only think these things happen in movies, but if people are actually present with their bodies and minds … it really is real. The magic of Christmas is what you make it. We try creating these magical moments in our hometown.”
At 5:30, the town starts singing Christmas songs as the community joins together to hang ornaments. Then at 5:45, there is a prayer for our community, families, service people, school, and our nation. At 6:00, the town square is getting lit up as well as the Christmas tree. Santa will arrive in town and greet everyone in town square until 7:30 p.m.
PHS student Caebry Nickelson said, “It really brings the community together and it shows the real meaning of christmas. It also shows the importance of bonding with your town.”
All local shops will be open from 6-9 p.m. Don’t miss out on this fun opportunity to get to know your community better! This event needs to be shared across the town so more young students can mark it in their calendars.
