The PHS Speech and Debate team attended the Missouri East Speech Association (MESA) Conference Speech Meet on December 10. The PHS Speech and Debate team had a historic “sweep” with a total team score of 105 points. This would be the second year in a row the PHS team won the Conference debate.
Radio- your winners from Potosi High School were Ruby Gibson-1st Place Conference Champion, Koadie Shoults-3rd Place Conference medalist.
PHS Speech and Debate member Ruby Gibson said,” It was my first year competing on the team as last year I time kept, and I was super excited that I got first in radio especially in my first year competing. I’m also so excited for our team overall as we swept all the other schools by 40-50 points. Everyone on the Speech and Debate team this year is all super new and first timers so I’m super excited for all of them as well.”
Storytelling- Placers from PHS were Magnum McCormack in 5th place, Allison Land in 6th place, and Alexis Johnson in 7th place.
Informative- Speaking your PHS placers were Sabrina Colgin in 5th Place and Kalissa Myers in 6th Place. Original Oratory- PHS placers were Jesse Steele coming in 5th Place and your 1st Place conference champion was Melissa Simmons.
Prose Reading- PHS student Jesse Steele came in 4th Place and Melissa Simmons was your 1st Place Conference Champion.
Poetry Reading- PHS Student Aaron Thompson came in 5th place.
Duet Acting- Allison Land and Magnum McCormack Placed 5th, Jaidlynn and Hunter Moorman Placed 6th and Khylee Luther and Alexis Johnson were your 3rd Place Conference Medalists.
Duo Interpretation- Macy Saunders and Kallie Barker were your 1st Place Conference Champions; Jaidlynn Gaines and Melissa Simmons medaled 3rd Place in Conference.
Dramatic Interpretation- Khylee Luther medaled 2nd Place in the Conference; Macy Saunders Medaled 3rd place in the Conference and Jaidlynn Gaines came in 4th place.
Humorous Interpretation- Macy Saunders was your 1st Place Conference Champion, Kallie Barker was your 2nd Place Conference Medalist, Magnum McCormack 3rd Place Conference Medalist, and Karlee Jacobs placed 6th.
PHS Speech and Debate member Macy Saunders said, “I thought the Conference meet went well. I got 3rd in DI, 1st in HI, and 1st in duo, so I was very proud of myself for that. Overall, it went really well. We had a record-breaking sweep against everyone, which is super cool. I’m just so proud of everyone and pleased with how it went.”
