Twelve students from Potosi High school were selected to be a part of the MAAA honor band. Students from schools around this area were hand selected by band directors to be in this honor band so it is a huge accomplishment. Thanks to the snow and ice this event got pushed back a week. There was a rehearsal held on Saturday the 18th and Monday the 20th followed by a concert later that evening. The concert consisted of 5 pieces including; K2: The Savage Mountain, Declaration Overture, Fanfare Esprit, Appalachian Mountain, and Caribana Afterparty and was directed by Mrs. Linda Huck. Mrs. Huck is a retired band director from Missouri.
The students from our band who were selected to perform in this band were; Abbigayle Bowen, Jordan Snider, Peyton Coleman, Shelby Arnold, Elizabeth Pratte, Maya Porter, Brayden White, Cheylee Long, Cassidy Price, Cortnie Wade, Jaxon Huffman, and Kaiden Kamper. Senior Jaxon Huffman said, “I have been picked to play in this band for the past three years and this year, I got to sit next to this guy from central and we talked and joked around during our breaks and the clarinets in front of us kept turning around and laughing at us.” Senior Brayden White said, My favorite part of MAAA was getting to meet new people and getting to play my instrument for the first time in a month.” These students worked really hard to learn their music in these two rehearsal days and put on a great concert that the audience really enjoyed.
