On Tuesday, January 22, the PHS fall athletes were recognized for their outstanding achievements earned throughout their seasons.
The fall sports recognized at the board meeting consisted of the PHS cross country, football, tennis, and volleyball teams.
At the meeting, there were around 160 people to support their student athletes’ achievements.
Coach Politte spoke for the cross country athletes while she rewarded each of them with their achievements that they earned throughout the season. The runners that were recognized were Allie Land, Alex Smith, Carley Coleman, Brayden Smith, Amontae Hill, Makya Knoll, Ava Govro, Presley Smith, and Peyton Heifner.
Continuing the night Coach Wyrick spoke for the football team. Coach Wyrick awarded several of his players with achievements that they earned throughout the season. The players recognized were Cole Fowler, Ean Eaton, Jude Litton, Thomas Lambing, Noah Walton, Wyatt Cannon, Clayton Richards, Carter Pyatt, Blayne Maxwell, Mike Chavosky, Will Chavosky, and Jordan Sparks.
Following that, Coach Mueller spoke for the girls tennis team and the awards they earned this season. The girls who were recognized for their accomplishments were Lani Elder and Hannah Barron.
Senior athlete Hannah Barron said, “It was definitely bittersweet. I just tried to take in every single moment because I know that I will miss it. But it is also exciting to take a step back and see where life takes me and I’m excited to see where the team goes next year.”
Finishing the night Coach Matthews spoke for the volleyball team on the accomplishments they achieved. The players recognized were Macyn McCarthy, Eden Robart, Ava Robart, and Carsyn Yount. She also recognized the team as a whole for winning the MSHSAA 2024 Class 3 State Championship. Coach Matthews was also recognized for winning coach of the year.
Sophomore player Makinnly Summers said, “It was a great experience being able to see all of the rewards that the athletes were able to receive and listen to all the accomplishments that these student athletes were able to achieve.”
Potosi High School had a very successful 2024 fall sports season. PHS sent two teams to state this year, cross country and volleyball. Potosi High School is preparing for another great year of academic and athletic achievements.
