Potosi Little League, also known as booster league, is a program that allows kids from kindergarten to sixth grade to play and learn the game of volleyball. There are two age groups that they are split into. The first is kindergarten to third grade, then fourth to sixth. These teams are coached by volunteers from our community and the Potosi High School volleyball team.
There are currently 26 teams playing in the league. These teams consist of kids from Potosi, Kingston, and Valley. Every team has practices once a week, and after those practices every Friday night the John Evan Middle School gym fills up with friends, family, and community to support these young kids.
Booster League sponsor, Jim Robart says, βI think the league helps our sports programs in specific volleyball because it puts kids in front of a volleyball way quicker than schools that do not offer this program. This league not only puts kids in front of a ball but teaches them how to do skills more in-depth at a younger age. This allows the kids to excel in the sport faster than if they were just introduced in middle school.β
This league has been going on since 2014, it has grown and developed more and more every year. This league aims to grow and develop our volleyball program for children at a young age.
Head varsity volleyball coach, Ashley Matthews says, βIt is exciting to see how many young girls are excited about volleyball. This league is great for them to be introduced to the game of volleyball.β
The last week of play will be Tuesday, March 25, and Thursday, March 27.
