Potosi High gained the support of building a new Fine Arts building through the Proposition C.A.R.E. In the future, it will be called the Potosi High Performing Arts Center, located in the parking lot by the wrestling room. The groundbreaking of the parking lot is expected to start this spring, and the new building is expected to be built in the winter of 2027.
Students, staff, and the community were in desperate need of a new building for band and choir concerts, graduations, ceremonies, inductions, and all things theatre. The theatre director, Mr. Dement, states, “I am excited for the new Fine Arts building because it will allow us to revolutionize our productions, give all Fine Arts departments more space to work, and it will also allow us to better serve the needs of the community.” Macy Saunders, the president of the thespian society, states, “I’m incredibly excited for the new Fine Arts Building! This building really is a dream come true for so many of us who are involved in the Fine Arts. I’ve always wanted to be able to perform on a real auditorium stage, and even though I won’t be here to perform in the building, I am so grateful that the community has given the future performers a place to shine.”
The theatre department has been performing mainstage shows on the current stage for as long as the community can remember. Several events have been hosted in the current space. The stage now is small and cramped, leaving little to no room to store props, costumes, set pieces, risers, or chairs. The new auditorium will have more room to store those things while also being equipped with the new technology that other schools and colleges have, such as better sound for the music performances, flexible lighting, and the creation of bigger and better sets for future shows. Current band concerts are held in the John Evans Middle School gym, which creates an echo during their performances. The new building will eliminate the echoing and give the band their full potential to perform with their instruments.
