The tennis team graduated five starters last year, leaving room to fill the top remaining spots. They have started their season out with two wins, and they hope many more are to come.
This year’s top five players are Chloe Rowe, Shannon Riddle, Caity Cain, Kinsley Vance, and Harlee Kley. These girls have worked very hard this offseason to prepare for the 2025/2026 season. They have had two matches and have won both, against Fredericktown 5-4 and Charleston 8-1.
Senior Kinsley Vance is in her third year of being a part of the tennis program. She has made her way to the top and has become not only a varsity player but one of the top five. One of Vance’s goals is to grow when it comes to singles and win more games on her own. Vance said, “ Graduating five seniors last year was definitely hard, because it left big shoes to fill with not very many varsity-experienced players.”
Vance said, “Something I am most looking forward to this year is the Windsor doubles, in hopes of coming out on top.”
Chloe Rowe is a Sophomore here at Potosi High School. Last year, Rowe was in the top six. When the five starters graduated, Rowe worked her way to the top as taking the number one spot on the team. Rowe said her goals for this year are to “specifically beat North County, Arcadia Valley, and Kennett, and get farther districts this year than last year.”
Coach Mueller said, “We are basically breaking in an entirely new varsity lineup this year, and that will be ok, it is a part of the high school sports process. We do have work to do. These girls are making progress. Their goal this year, like “every year,” is to win the district title.
“If I had to describe our mindset for this year, I am going to borrow from the great TV character and fictional soccer coach Ted Lasso: ‘The harder we work, the luckier we get,'” said Coach Mueller.
The tennis team will be back on the court on 9/10 at Windsor for their first tournament this season. Be there and be loud.
