On Friday Sept. 19, at PHS first home game our Potosi High School dance team will take the field for the first time this year during half time.
“The dance team has worked hard all summer, planning for a successful first year dancing on the field,” said Captain Kallee Logsden.
There hasn’t always been a dance team for Potosi’s football team. While talking with Coach Vance she said,” Between student and community feedback from our past performances is how the idea came about and was presented. The more school spirit, the better!”
The dance team has eight returners and six new members. The members include, Captain Kallie Barker, Captain Kallee Logsden, Macy Saunders, Heaven Thurman, Sophia DeClue,Harlee Kley, Mia Kley, Jesse Steele, Ruby Gibson, Kinsley Vance, McKenzie McCormack, McKenna Branham, Georgia Pratt, and Shelby Arnold. Later on in May the pommies team will be graduating nine of the XIV members this year. Leaving huge roles, and gaps to be filled.
Senior dance member Macy Saunders is in her second year dancing for the pommies team. Saunders is most looking forward to being able to dance on the football field. Saunders said, “ I have always wanted to dance at a football game, so when we were given the opportunity I was extremely happy.” Saunders said that one of her goals this year for the dance team is, “Enter into a lot more competitions and just continue to grow.”
While coaches have many goals for their members Coach Vance has one big one. “I’d love to see each of the girls grow in confidence on the floor through the routines. It can change the mood of the entire stadium if they dance with all the confidence they have. Big energy during performances is a must,” said Vance.
Coach Vance’s expectations for this season is growth and technique. Vance said, “The team has put in lots of practice and training time to become stronger and more advanced for competitions this season. With it only being the second year of participating in competition, the earlier we start training the better.”
Vance said, “ As a coach, I live to pull all the effort in the world into my team! Seeing them grow and succeed at what we work so hard for is worth more than gold. ‘But as for you, be strong and do not give up for your work will be rewarded’.” 2 Chronicles 15:7
