On Sept. 18, 2025, the Lady Trojans traveled to Festus, MO to compete with the Lady Lancers. Although the Trojans fought hard, they fell short in the end, losing zero sets to three.
Prior to the big game, Coach Ashley Matthews said, “We are playing St Pius, they are the class four state champions, as we are the reigning class three state champions. I’m expecting our girls to play their best, I hope they’re not intimidated, and I hope they don’t think that they cannot be successful because they absolutely can. Pius has a couple returners from last year but so do we so I have high expectations for tonight and I hope we can compete.”
Going into the game, the team had to make do with who they had, with Junior Eden Robart, Sophomore Sabyn Brown, and Sophomore Brenley Thornton setting. The team was suffering from sickness, with Junior middle hitter Adalyn Kirby and Junior setter Adalynn Gibson out. To add to this, Junior libero Macyn McCarthy was going through a minor knee injury along with Sophomore setter Sabyn Brown recovering from a concussion.
When adversity hit, the team still managed to come together and execute with what they were working with. The girls pushed and did the best they could. Robart had 1 assist out of 8 attempts, Brown had 6 assists out of 19 attempts, and Thornton had 10 assists out of 38 attempts. McCarthy had 12 digs, along with 5 perfect serve receive passes and 4 good serve receive passes.
Even though the girls lost, they still played to their best ability and used what they had efficiently. Be sure to come and watch the girls play throughout the rest of their season!
