On Monday Sept. 22 the Potosi Trojan JV football team faced the opposing Ste. Gen Dragons on their home turf and fell short 16-14.
The Trojans came out strong, scoring on the first drive of the game and securing the two point conversion to make it 8-0. The Trojans held the Dragons to zero points far after the halftime buzzer until the Dragons scored and secured their own 8 points in the 3rd quarter.
Both teams made many defensive stops which kept the game tied at 8-8 resulting in overtime. The Trojans earned possession first and scored a touchdown but fell short in scoring their attempted two point conversion resulting in the game being 14-8. The Dragons gained possession and managed to score a touchdown as well but secured their own 2 point conversion closing the game out 16-14.
Coach Jake Casey said, “ I think we did a good job fighting and I think we overcame a lot of adversity when things went wrong for us. We had a lot of kids get to go into the game tonight that aren’t usually a part of the rotation and I think they stepped up and did a good job. I think moving forward we need to be able to close out those games. That was a close one and if we could just get better at closing ones like those out we can come out on top.”
Sophomore JV Starter and Captain Lucas Stark said, “I think every player on our team needs to contribute one hundred percent effort every play. We came out really hot and hit a lot of bumps which drug us down causing us to give up too early.”
Freshman JV quarterback Nolan Yount said, “ I think we can improve on getting more snaps in and getting more quality practice in as a team. I think with more time and more practice we will continue to see improvements from there.”
The JV team will be back in action on Mon., Sept. 29 at 6 at Fredericktown.
