Peyton Heifner, a Junior at Potosi High School, is a cross country runner who is making a difference for herself, and her team.
“When I’m running down the last stretch of the finish line, I feel tired and sometimes unmotivated, but I remind myself that I’m almost there,” said Heifner.
With three first-place finishes so far, Peyton is becoming a more consistent competitor against other schools. She has placed first at three meets this season including, the Scenic River Run in Van Buren, the Bismark Invitational, and the Farmington postal meet. With an impressive medal at Rim Rock Classic in Lawrence, Kansas, Peyton placed twenty third place out of 376 girls in the varsity blue race. At the same meet, she set her new personal best for the 5k, 20:44.
“I’d probably say my dad has influenced me the most, he keeps me motivated and plays a big role in my running career, I’m very grateful for him,” said Peyton.
After high school, Peyton has plans to run cross country at Mineral Area College. This Saturday, October 18th, Peyton will compete at the Farmington Invitational at Engler park.
