On Oct 14th Potosi Trojans volleyball team gained another victory, inching closer to what they hope is another state championship.
Oct 14th was the first three games of pool play for conference. The schools that played were Potosi Trojans, Central Rebels, and Fredericktown Blackcats.
The first game at five o’clock was against Potosi and Central with Potosi winning 2-0. The scores of the two sets were 24-26 and 13-25.
During the game a few star players included Sophomore Eve Litton with a total of 12 kills, Junior Adalynn Gibson with 24 assists, and Junior Macyn McCarthy with 12 digs. During the game Freshman Kaydence Eden had the opportunity to go into the game and gain 2 digs which lead to points for potosi.
Star player Macyn McCarthy said “I thought we played decently, we had some jitters the first set but we pulled it together in the end and played as a team.”
The second game of the night at six o’clock was Central and Fredericktown with a tough three set game ending with Central victorious going 2-1. The scores included 27-25, 20-25, 19-17 with central winning the first and last set.
The last game of the night at seven o’clock was against Potosi and Fredericktown with Potosi winning 2-0. The scores of the sets were 20-25 and 17-25.
Star players of this game were Junior Eden Robart with 11 kills, Junior Adalynn Gibson with 15 assists, and Junior Macyn McCarthy with 8 digs and 5 aces during the duration of the game.
During the game Sophomores Paige Robart, Chloe Essmyer, Cali Dunn, and freshman Kaydence Eden all ended up getting to go in and contribute to the varsity team. Eden ended up getting one dig and Dunn had one assist during their time in the game.
Assistant coach Chandler Franklin said “I’m really proud of our team tonight. The girls have been putting in a lot of hard work, and it’s starting to show on the court. We’re continuing to improve each match and learning from every opportunity we get. The energy and effort are there, and we’re heading in the right direction as we get closer to districts.”
Potosi Trojans have been fighting hard and hopefully for the Trojans the rest of conference goes well and they can carry on into districts.
Thursday Oct 16th Trojans have second round of conference at home after school.
