Potosi Trojans’ Last Home Football Game Until Playoffs
October 16, 2020
Every Friday until the season ends, parents, students, many siblings, and even families that don’t know who the players are, fill the stands up to the top. Home or away, spectators can hear loud cheers all the way down to the sidelines. It’s not only a sport. It’s not only a celebration for every win. It’s not only a lesson for each loss. For the Potosi Trojans family, it means much more knowing that everyone is out there supporting the boys that draw the small town together.
Friday, October 9 was the last regular season home football game for the Potosi Trojans — the last home game for seniors and the last home game for the returning Coach Wyrick to see his seniors play.
St. Charles West was originally Potosi’s opponent for week 7 but due to the lack of players, they were forced to cancel the game. Sikeston stepped up to take St. Charles’ place in PHS’ last home game. Junior Tucker Juliette, the center for the Trojans, said, “Sikeston was amazing. One of the most fun games we have had this season honestly. They were nice, competitive, and honest folks. We had a great game,” stated Juliette. Potosi walked away with a win of 39-25 that night.
Senior Bryce Reed, defensive end and punter/kicker, said “It was fun. It was more so just another game with little more juice to it. It was a little emotional at the end but nothing too bad.”
Senior Devon Marler is currently playing middle linebacker and tight end for the Trojans. Many of the players, like Marler and Reed, have been playing football since the first grade. “It was kind of sad to realize it was my last home game. I just tried to take in as much as I possibly could and am just hoping to have another home game in the playoffs,” stated Marler.
Potosi welcomed Coach Wyrick´s return after spending last year in Salem. Wyrick had a positive outlook on the seniors in the time he was able to spend with them. “They are great kids and great leaders. Most importantly, they are great young men off the field and on the field. They lead by example. They lead vocally and I’m proud of how they have taken charged and command of this football team.”
