The Trojans boys and girls wrestling team traveled to Herculaneum on Saturday, Dec. 14.The boys team placed third out of eight teams, only losing to one team. The girls team sadly did not get to wrestle due to a lack of girls teams.
The boys steam rolled through most of the competition, getting most of their points through pins. Going into the quarterfinals the boys had beaten every team that they had faced. The boys team started off every dual down points due to not having kids on the roster. These teams include Herculaneum, Westminster Christian Academy, as well as St.Marys.
The boys team lost Alton, Illinois, in the semi-finals. After a tough battle, the Trojans only lost by 1 point to Alton in matches that they were expected to win, as well as not having enough kids to fill the roster.
The boys then had to wrestle SLUH for 3rd place. The Trojans were down due to lack of kids but they battled back with multiple pins in a row, winning the dual 35,36 in a close one.
The boys that stuck out the most were Braxton Boyer (138) who won 3 matches and lost 2, Zane Richards (144) who won all of his matches going 4-0, Tyson Fowler (132) who won all of his matches going 5-0 and securing must needed points for the Trojans, and Gavin Stone (126) who went 4-1 only losing one match in a nail biter.
