Back in September members of the Potosi High School concert choir auditioned for the All-District choir. The All-District choir takes a select few students who audition from 25 surrounding schools and has the best students in the area come together to do a performance. Among the students who auditioned for the All-District choir were senior Samuel Rhodes and junior Macy Saunders. Rhodes and Saunders not only made the All-district choir but were also chosen to audition for the All-State choir. This is an immense honor that is only given to a very select number of students in the state.
Auditions for the All-State choir took place on November 16th on the same day as the All-District concert. Based on their auditions, which consisted of them singing a cutting of an audition song and going through a round of sight reading, they were chosen for the All-State choir.
Macy and Samuel attended the All-State conference from January 29 to February 1 in Columbia, Missouri. At this conference All-State choir members workshopped the state pieces and perfected the songs chosen for the state concert. The state concert took place on the last day of the conference and served as a final performance for the group.
Saunders praised the experience stating, “It was just awesome. I met some really great people and some very talented singers. I had a lot of fun and loved being challenged as a singer.” Sam added, “State choir is an awesome experience and I would encourage anyone who wants to deepen their connection with music to pursue it.”
In the upcoming weeks Macy and Sam are working on solos and their small ensemble groups. Solos and ensembles for both choir and band will be on March 8th at Hillsboro High School. Good luck and Congratulations to both Macy and Sam for all of their accomplishments!
