Every semester Mrs. Kay offers an Introduction to Mass Media class. This class introduces feature stories, news stories, sports stories, and interview skills. Intro to Mass Media is also half an English credit that will count towards your junior and senior year. The class will introduce you to yearbook with Mrs. Cordia; however, you do not have to take Mass Media you may just take Intro to Mass Media.

Sophomore Emily Brewer said, “Intro to Mass media has really improved my writing in the short amount of time that I have been in there. It made me realize that when you don’t have to go off a certain script but just whatever you feel is right for the story.”

Being in Intro to Mass Media my first semester of Freshman year, I confidently say that Emily is right. My writing skills improved so much after taking this class. Mrs Kay makes you write so much it builds confidence in yourself and your writing skills that will only benefit you later on.

Senior Noelle Porter said, “Intro to Mass Media is a class I had been looking forward to all summer since Missouri Girls State where I went to the school of journalism. There I learned the importance of writing and reporting Intro to Mass Media has given me a space to learn and grow my skills. It has also given me the space to be creative.”

Intro to Mass Media and Mass Media gives students a space to be creative and do things that we never thought we were capable of doing. It offers a sense of creative freedom that you will never receive from another class.

Being able to write about whatever you want under Mrs Kay and Mrs Cordia’s guidance, introduces a sense of independence by having to choose your own topic and interview the people that will go along with your story.

Intro to Mass Media and Yearbook came together and decided on introducing a PTTV Broadcasting channel, PHS’s ‘own talk show where we will talk about recent news here at PHS.

This will benefit students with public speaking skills while still keeping it light and fun because you will be interacting with your peers that you’re already confident with.

Intro to mass media is a class that will benefit you later in life. It gets you confident speaking with people you never thought you would ever meet and maybe you’ll make some new friends along the way.
