Potosi High School pep squad continues to grow and show their support towards each fall sport

As fall sports kick their seasons into gear, the PHS pep squad is showing other schools what Trojan pride looks (and sounds) like at home and away games.

In the past, the PHS pep squad has always been loud for Potosi Trojan sports. However, this is the year the pep squad goes full out loud and proud. There have only been a few games of the 2023 Fall sports season and the pep squad has not failed to show up for each of them.

PHS senior pep squad leader Paige West said, “My goal for the pep squad is to get everyone involved and want to support our teams. So far we have had lots of participation even at away games. I am looking forward to further sports events and hopefully to grow the pep squad.” West has been thrilled to see everyone supporting and cheering at volleyball and football games so far.

Beginning the 2023 fall sports season, the varsity football team had their first game Aug. 25 at St. Clair. The pep squad theme for the night was jerseys but because St. Clair is about a 50 minute drive from Potosi, a huge pep squad was not expected. When a group of 20+ Trojans showed up in jerseys, that expectation was shattered.

The volleyball team began their season Aug. 28 at West County. In the last few years, volleyball has not been as popular among the pep squad as football has. This year they shocked everyone. The theme for Monday’s game was neon and the Potosi side of the bleachers was filled just as full as the West County side with bright colors, cheering our Lady Trojans to victory.

The Volleyball team took another victory over Union Aug. 29. The pep squad was small but loud and cheered the girls through an intense five set game. The Lady Trojans also went five sets in their first home game Aug. 31 against Cape Notre Dame. The theme was aliens/space wear and the pep squad most definitely showed up and cheered loud.

The pep squad can only continue to grow louder and more fun from here. The football team will have their first home game Sep. 1 against Farmington. The pep squad theme is neon/glow and many students are already excited for it as well as future games throughout the entire school year.
