This year, something big changed for our football team; Mark Casey returned to Potosi High School after working at Central High School as an assistant coach.
Casey is a former graduate of Potosi High School, staying in the Potosi R-3 School district K-12, as well as 4 years of post-grad education at Ottawa University in Kansas.
Noah Walton said, “I think Coach Casey is a great coach because he knows just about everything that there is to know about coaching, and he understands that every kid doesn’t react to adversity the same.”
Coach Casey has made a huge impact on the Potosi football players and has led them a long way this year, guiding them all the way to the district championship.
Coach Casey said, “This past football season has been a really good memory just for the fact that, you know, we started off really slow, but we started getting better as the season went on and kind of finished on a strong note.”
Coach Casey said, “And as I got into college, I continued to play sports. And then after college, it was kind of like, okay, well, now that I’m out of college, what am I gonna do? And I ended up my first job, it didn’t have anything really to do with sports, but then I kind of missed it, and I thought that’s kind of the way to still be a part of sports and continue to kind of compete, by coaching.”
Casey started working at Potosi High School in the years 2003-2004 as a health teacher at the middle school and an assistant football, assistant basketball, and track coach. Taking over the head football coach position for 9 years in 2007.
He then moved to Central High School in 2017, taking an assistant coaching position till 2025. Casey has been coaching for 22 years now and is currently the head coach at Potosi High School for the football team.
Coach Casey said “ I’ve been doing this for 22 years now, so you look for new things to kind of rejuvenate you, I guess, after a while, you know, after certain periods of time, you kind of might get stagnant or whatever, but it was just kind of a new and exciting situation, and it was obviously coming back home to where I’m from. So, it just seemed like the right thing to do at the time. “
It’s a true family affair at Potosi R-3! We are so excited to see the Casey family legacy grow as they serve our students across the entire district. From Coach Casey returning to the high school sidelines, to Jake teaching at the Middle School, and now Addi joining the team at PES to teach our littlest Trojans—it’s a great day to be a Potosi fan!
