Stella Bourbon, a 2025 PHS graduate, is charting an inspiring path in the world. As a student, Stella was actively involved in academics and many extracurricular activities including FFA and tennis. In her time at PHS, Stella served as the FFA treasurer, secretary, and as vice president. She earned her Missouri State degree, the highest FFA state honor, and is working towards her American degree, the highest National FFA award. Stella was a part of the student ambassadors, NHS, and Mass Media. She grew as a tennis player and made her mark as a Varsity player her senior year.
Since graduation, Stella is majoring in elementary education at Mineral Area College. Stella is substitute teaching for the Potosi School District three to four days a week to gain experience with children and become familiar with the field. She enjoys substitute teaching at Potosi Elementary, Trojan Intermediate, and John Evans Middle School. She rarely says no when asked to sub in new and different grades or classrooms. She sees each student and classroom as a learning experience.
When asked about her substitute experience, Stella stated, “I would say, since I started substituting, I have learned classroom management skills, and how to communicate with students of different ages and different backgrounds.”
Some advice Stella has for high school students is: if you plan on going to college, take the dual credit classes, but you know what you can handle – don’t put too much on your plate. She leads by example when she says, “Remind yourself, every day is a brand new day.”
