Former West County Bulldog, Alex Hogan, transferred to PHS at just the beginning of this year to become a Potosi Trojan. Hogan originally was a Trojan starting back in elementary school before moving to West County, but found comfort in coming back to his original hometown to play with the teammates he has known and bonded with long before.
For Hogan this move did not come without challenges. This meant adapting to the new system, expectations, and finding comfort and trust in his new teammates and coaches. Despite this, Hogan embraced the new experience due to his familiarity with a few members of his teams and managed to settle in quickly and establish even more friendships he remembers leaving with.
Hogan said, “I knew I would be making the right choice on coming back because I know how special this team and coaching staff is. They all work really well together and I knew they were going to make me feel at home from the start.”
When asked about welcoming Hogan to the PHS basketball team, PHS boys basketball head coach, Coach Conaway said , “Welcoming Alex was an easy thing for us all to do. He has worked hard every day we are in the gym and gives 100% effort for us. The entire team has welcomed him to the family because of the effort and hard work he has been putting in.”
When asked about what basketball means to him, Hogan said, “It means the most to me. No matter what jersey I have on, the coaches, or the teammates, I enjoy playing it every time I step on the court and I try my best every time I’m out there playing no matter what.”
Hogan explains that he has been playing basketball since he can remember and cherishes the sport and everything that comes with it. Hogan emphasizes on the coaches he has had the opportunity to play under and the friendships he has built along the way. He knows that without these aspects that come with basketball, he would not be the player he is today.
Hogan said, “Coming back and playing basketball at PHS is something I will never regret doing. I love it here and I’m so glad that I am surrounded by a nice group of coaches and friends. I look forward to doing all that I can for my team this year and I can’t wait to see what we will accomplish.”
For the remainder of the season, Hogan hopes to contribute not only with his performance but also by being a reliable player and teammate for his team. With his experience and passion for the game, the Trojans gain not just a skilled athlete, but a player who understands the value of putting on the Trojan jersey and the opportunity to play the game he loves.
