Junior basketball players Sabra Brown and Eden Robart are the captains of the Lady Trojans basketball team. For this 2025-2026 school year, the girls basketball team has no Senior players, so Sabra and Eden had to fill that role. For being Juniors, they have taken the team under their wing and guided them perfectly throughout their season.
“They aren’t just captains because of their basketball skills, they’re captains because of how they show up for everyone,” said sophomore basketball player Presley Smith.
The girls look up to Robart and Brown, which allows them to play the sport they all love while having great role models.
“Coach Mapes coaches in a way that is very active with all of his players and in a way that everyone can understand and grow as a player, and that influences me as a leader,” said Robart.
Although the team may look up to Robart, she looks up to Coach Mapes and has learned many leadership qualities from him.
“Outside of basketball, being a team captain has taught me how to be accountable and how to lead by example,” said Brown.
Brown uses the lessons that she has learned from basketball and applies them to her day to day life. She is very grateful for the opportunities she has been given in being a leader for the girls basketball program.
“I try to stay up and remind my team to focus on the next play in tense moments in the game,” said Robart.
When the girls find themselves in tense situations either off or on the court, they know Robart will be there to help guide them through whatever obstacles they may face.
“A life lesson that basketball has taught me is to stay positive in tough situations and to never give up,” said Brown.
Whatever tough situation Brown may find herself in, she uses the skills and qualities that basketball has given her especially when she is not on the court. She hopes that her teammates that look up to her, will pick up this quality and apply it whatever situation they may face in the future.
Being a leader is not always easy. There is always going to be a tough game, practice, or situation that they will find themselves in. But, Eden and Sabra stay persistent and maintain being great leaders on the court and off the court.
Good luck to the Lady Trojans basketball team on the rest of their season!
