With the boys’ basketball season coming to an end, Coach Jackson Conaway looks back on the journey that this team has been on over the past few months. From the first day of practice until the final stretch of the season, the goal of Coach Conaway has remained the same: to create a team that will not only compete with heart, discipline, and unity, but will do so with a team that is ready to face the challenge.
The team was ready for the challenge of coming back from a Final Four appearance. The team took on the role of leaders, the youth looked up to them, and the team continued to come together as a whole.
“Our philosophy is about more than just winning; it’s about hard work, accountability, and having each other’s backs,” Coach Conaway states. The team’s focus on defense, offense, and communication throughout the season is quite evident, yet according to Conaway, the true test of the team’s success is the growth of each of the players, as well as the team as a whole.
The objectives for this team going into this season were to play at a high level, get better each day, and make their school proud. As this season is coming to a close, Coach Conaway is proud of the determination he’s seen from his players, whether that determination comes from a series of tough losses or a series of big wins.
This is the end of the line for the senior players on this year’s team, and Coach Conaway hopes that not only are the players better basketball players, but better leaders as well when all is said and done. “Playing basketball is about more than just basketball; it’s about learning lessons that carry on beyond this game.”
As time winds down on this season, one thing is for certain: this season wasn’t about the games played, but about the culture built and lessons learned along the way.
