Just like players, coaches have different philosophies on running their program. Some may be laid back, while others may be strict. However, Coach Politte of the Potosi Track & Field program has a mixture of several different philosophies.
Coach Politte’s overall coaching style is to want kids come out to practice, she wants kids to train at their best and to have a positive attitude. A great teammate in her system looks like a player who is consistent, by showing up every day, encouraging teammates, putting their full effort into workouts, and is willing to try new things.
When trying to get a freshman comfortable with track, she pairs them up with upperclassmen or people who have experience in their field and uses those veterans as examples. One thing that coaches don’t receive much praise for is preparing the team for meets or games. For Coach Politte? She compares the hours leading up to a track meet to putting a puzzle together by putting kids in events that’ll give the team the best chances to succeed.
When being asked about what meet she looks forward to this season, she stated, “ ” Her season goal is for the kids to get technique down and improve day by day until the end of the season. When Coach Politte approaches a kid who has never run track before, she tries to talk about how fun track can really be. She stated, “There’s something for everyone in track; it’s also a social sport, so you’ll meet a lot of people.”
